#11 The Adjustment

The ever-changing wind has certainly posed to be a true challenge to me. It is not easy to know when you need to make little adjustments and when you know you have to gather all the courage you have to make a real change.

Just a quick recap, ever since the bomb was dropped to me by my management at the time I was stationed in Taiwan for my intensive Mandarin course—that they were no longer going to produce my album due to unforeseen circumstances—I was crushed. But I have never been so grateful for my stubbornness because that particular trait happens to go hand in hand with perseverance.

I am glad I didn’t give up. I am not going to lie… I was really close to giving up. It was the closest I have ever felt to giving up this line of work and that says a lot because although some may argue I haven’t been in the industry for very long (almost 2 years to date from the first day I stepped into Andrea Fonseka’s office to sit for an interview to join the Miss Universe Malaysia 2013 pageant… that was sometime in June 2012), I have gone through a whirlwind of obstacles since.

So I came back from Taiwan feeling dejected but continued pressing on and started the ball rolling by actively looking for opportunities and still continued attending castings for TV commercials, acting, hosting… whatever and whenever I could.

It may be timing… it may be luck… it may be preparation on my part… or just a kick-ass combination of all three! But I happened to meet an amazing individual that could possibly change my life forever.

Jamie and I hit it off on our first meeting! We had amazing chemistry and we shared consistent aspirations, goals and dreams. The key word is consistent. Not the same… but rather, a complement to one another. It is important to understand that when looking for a good management, complementing objectives and aspirations are absolute key.

Within a one month of meeting my new manager, she flew me down to Singapore and got together a team in only a couple of days just to redo my image! I had an incredible team of hair stylist, make-up artist, photographer, wardrobe, and personal stylist!! Jamie clearly has amazing influences and my latest portfolio (inclusive of the image above) is proof of that.

In a way, I consider myself very lucky because when swapping managements, things could get very messy. However, I am grateful for the smooth transition. After all, I never blamed my previous management for not fulfilling their end of the bargain. I am certain they tried their best but sometimes, things just don’t work out the way we want it to. At the end of it, I know they truly did want the best for me because they were willing to let me go for my greater purpose.

So I had to kiss a few toads before I found my prince. I hope I’m not jinxing it but I really do have a good feeling about my working relationship with my current management, AM Media & Entertainment. Hoping for great things to come.

With that, I want to sign off this entry with this very fitting quote for the predicament I went through…

“We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails.”
